Saturday, 30th Aug 2014, 02:50 PM IST Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma published an apology for his atheist tweet that he made on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. Varma had earlier tweeted on the micro blogging site saying, “The guy who couldn't save his own head from being cut, how he will save others heads is my question? But Happy Ganpathi day to morons!”
His tweet sparked a controversy as many people’s sentiments were hurt. Lawyer and political activist Shehzad Poonawalla even lodged a complaint against him to the Delhi Police and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Apologizing for his unwarranted tweet, Varma wrote on Twitter, “All tweets I put on Ganesha were in my usual manner but unintended by me to hurt anyone’s sentiments... but if they did, I sincerely apologize”.
Talking about the incident, Poonawalla said, “It hurts everyone’s sentiments, I have lodged a complaint against Ram Gopal Varma to the Delhi Police and Ministry of Home Affairs(MHA).” Filmmaker Ashok Pandit also criticized Varma saying, “An educated man,a great filmmaker like him is doing this, he is abusing and has chosen to write such statements on the day when everyone is celebrating the occasion. The entire nation knows about that he is an insensitive man. He went for a recce in Taj hotel for his film when the entire nation was mourning the death of people in 26/11 attacks.” |
