Music Review: SHAMITABH’s Music Is Different But Lacks Entertainment

Tuesday, 3rd Feb 2015, 12:33 PM IST Music Director: Ilaiyaraaja Lyricist: Kausar Munir, Swanand Kirkire Amitabh Bachchan and director R Balki have once again teamed up for the film ‘Shamitabh’. The movie also stars Dhanush and Akshara Haasan. Like R Balki’s previous films, even Shamitabh’s music is composed by Ilaiyaraaja. So, let’s see how well he has fared in this album. The movie revolves around films and superstars. So, the makers start the album with the song which is dedicated to film industry. Titled as ‘Ishq-E-Fillum’, the first track is strictly okay. Voice of Suraj Jagan makes an impact well and Swanand Kirkire’s lyrics are quite good. Ratings: 2/5 Next comes in ‘Sha Sha Sha Mi Mi Mi’ which is quite a contemporary number. However, Ilaiyaraaja fails with the track as the western touch in it doesn’t impress us. Kausar Munir has done a good job with the lyrics and Caralisa Monteiro’s voice irritates. Ratings: 1/5 Moving forward we get the fantastic voice of Amitabh Bachchan in the song ‘Piddly Si Baatein’. Believe us except Big B’s voice, nothing impresses us in this track. It looks like we are listening to a track from the 90’s. This track seems to be outdated. Ratings: 1.5/5 The only track which really impressed us is the song ‘Stereophonic Sannata’. It’s an amazing number with wonderful lyrics. And above all is Shruti Haasan’s superb voice. Shruti’s voice gels well with the track. The music is also quite good with a touch of krumping in it. Kirkire’s lyrics are entertaining. Ratings: 3.5/5 After an impressive track, once again we are disappointed with an irritating track titled ‘Thappad’. Even the vocals of Suraj Jagan and Rap Earl D'souza fail to save this song. Ratings: 1/5 The last song in the album is ‘Lifebuoy’. Well, it is actually an audio advertisement of the soap Lifebuoy. And we are sure that after listening to this track no one will buy the soap. Suraj Jagan’s voice is horrible in the song. Ratings: 0/5 [Listen to the track and you’ll know why it’s an absolute zero!] On the whole, Ilaiyaraaja tries to give ‘Shamitabh’ unique music, but he forgot that music needs to entertain. Album Ratings: 2/5 Now you can enjoy ad-free experience by downloading India’s first Box Office mobile app from here –Android:http://bit.ly/BOCapsuleMobileApp and iOS:bit.ly/BOCapsuleiOSApp |
